The SKS (Samozaryadny Karabin sistemy Simonova) is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine designed by Sergei Simonov and adopted in 1945, just before the widespread fielding of the AK platform.
The SKS saw limited frontline Soviet service before being largely replaced by the AK-47/AKM, but it was widely exported and produced by countries like China, Yugoslavia, and others. It remains well-known for its durability, simplicity, and historical role as a bridge between eras of infantry weapons.
